Ashish


Ashish Chandra
Associate General Counsel, WhatsApp

Ashish is the Associate General Counsel of WhatsApp and leads the legal, regulatory and litigation affairs of its communication and payments business in India. He also advises Facebook & Instagram to build their e-commerce and e-payments business in India. Ashish is handling various litigations before the Supreme Court and various High Courts on UPI Payments, privacy, encryption & traceability, OTT regulations, content blocking etc. 

In the past, he has worked with various large Indian and US companies like Netflix, eBay, Reliance Jio & Snapdeal. 

Over last 20 years, Ashish has contributed to the growth of Internet business, related regulations, and jurisprudence in India. He has structured approx. US$8 billion in VC / PE funding (including the recent investment of $5.7 billion by Facebook in Jio), acquired about 20 businesses, and forged techno-commercial tie-ups valuing billions in tech and internet space. Ashish has represented large corporations and industry bodies before various regulators and parliamentarians for shaping up laws and policies on eCommerce, digital payments, telecom, and data privacy. 

Nitin Mittal
General Counsel – India Sub/Pacific Region, Region Systems & Services and Company Secretary
Signify Innovations India 

Nitin presently is part of the Signify Legal Function (Growth Markets Team) as General Counsel – India Sub/Pacific Region, Region Systems & Services and Company Secretary.
Nitin has over the last 20 years handled functions covering Legal, Compliance, Governance, Insurance and Real Estate, while leading teams on mergers/ demergers/Corporate restructuring, acquisitions and integration of acquired companies, civil and criminal litigations and high-stake arbitrations. He has set up new plants, restructuring of company operations, established contract management processes, implemented global mandated compliance programs and managed complex projects with regional and global implications. 
• He has been recognized as a leading General counsel by ICCA, CCAI.
• He was listed in the GC Powerlist 2018 for India by Legal 500( top 100 GC's in India).
• Named by ICCA with forewords from the Ministry of Law & Justice, India as amongst " India's finest in-house Counsels" at a function on 6th Oct, 2017.
• On 10th Nov, 17- Philips Lighting in-house legal team has been selected for “The Legal 500 GC Powerlist India: Teams” which is an international recognition.

Parveen


Parveen Mahtani
Chief Legal Officer, Mahindra Lifespace Developers

Parveen Mahtani is a gold medallist in law. 

Parveen is presently Chief Legal Officer of Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. 

She has been honoured as "Woman Leader in a Male Dominated Industry 2019". She was featured by the Indian Corporate Counsel Association in their book titled “India’s Finest  In-House Counsels” published in 2016. She has also been acknowledged as one of “Asia’s Top 25 In-House Counsels” by the Asian Legal Business.  She has also been featured as top in-house legal teams by Legal 500 UK: GC Powerlist: India (2017 and 2019)

She has also been honoured as “Top 25 General Counsels in India” in 2018 by the ICCA in London. She has been featured in the featured in the book “Legal Luminaries” published by the ICCA and the book “ Constellations” The Shining stars in the Legal Fraternity” in 2019.


Rajiv Choubey
Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary, ACC Limited

Rajiv Choubey is the Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary and Executive Committee member of ACC Limited, part of the Swiss major, LafargeHolcim. He is an alumnus of Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Indian Law Institute and Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi and the Institute of Company Secretaries (ICSI). 

Rajiv has more than two decades of experience in manufacturing as well as IT Company. Prior to joining ACC, he was the General Counsel of HCL Infosystems Ltd., Vice President - Legal & CS of Vedanta Limited and had a brief stint at Maruti Suzuki, Hindustan Tin etc. Rajiv heads the legal function and advised management on entire gamut of business activities – from Mining, Environment, Competition law, Commercial & Industrial laws, M&A, as well as on GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance)  In past he has also handled listing in US /NYSE during his stint at Sterlite/Vedanta. Rajiv and his team have been recognized by various forums/ bodies, including ICCA, CCAI, Indian National Bar Association, Legal 500, IDEX, IOD as one of the leading in-house counsels/ teams which he has lead.

Surabhi Agarwal
Founder & Senior Partner - Parikh & Parikh Agarwal and Partners 

Formerly Legal Director of the South East Asia Pacific region and member of global legal leadership team of a fortune 500 MNC, Surabhi Agarwal is the Senior Founding Partner of Parikh & Parikh, Agarwal and Partners, a full-service law firm with a niche litigation practice. The firms’ partners have expertise in handling high profile matters in the Supreme Court of India and various high courts, while Surabhi brings corporate expertise and significant international experience into the mix. She was adjudged one of the best General Counsels in South East Asia in 2019 by the Legal 500. In her previous role, as a member of the global legal leadership team, Surabhi contributed to the global vision and strategy for the legal function of the Company and spearheaded a number of global initiatives. In the region, Surabhi was at the forefront of several critical transactions and the team reached several milestones during her stint. The legal team led by her was adjudged one of the best teams in South East Asia in 2018 and then in 2020.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

ELIGIBILITY 

How do I know if I am eligible to make a submission? 

We highly encourage all firms, individuals and in-house teams to submit, as we have numerous award categories to choose from. We welcome both past participants and newcomers to join the submission for the awards. 

Is self-nomination permitted?

Yes, we accept self-nominated submissions. We also accept third-party submissions, should you wish to nominate an external party or vice versa.

Is there a fee required to make a submission in the law awards?

No, there is no fee payment required for you or your firm/team to make a submission. 

TIMELINE OF EVENTS

When will the finalists and winners be announced?

The shortlist of finalists will be released around 4-8 weeks prior to the awards ceremony. The winners will be exclusively announced at the awards ceremony on 20 August 2021.

NOMINATION PROCESS AND ASSESSMENT 

How are the finalists chosen?

Asian Legal Business will compile all of the submission entries, and the ALB editorial and research teams will extensively review each submission to ensure the criteria are met in order to advance to the shortlist of finalists. We stress that this process is fair, impartial and not subject to external influences. 

How are the winners chosen? 

Once the shortlist of finalists have been announced, an independent judging panel will review and select their top three choices for the award categories they are assigned to. The scores for each award category will be tabulated, and the individual/firm/team with the highest score will be announced as the winner. 

What are the award categories that I can take part in?

Any law firms, in-house teams or individuals may take part in multiple award categories if appropriate. The researchers reserve the right to move entries from one category to another if they feel it appropriate. The researchers’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

Who will be on the judging panel for ALB India Law Awards? 

There will be an independent judging panel of at least 25 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials. The judging panel will be selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge, and will be comprised from various sectors to correspond to the diverse list of award categories. A partial list of judges’ names will be released prior to the awarding ceremony, and the remaining judges will be revealed on the evening of the awards. 

What will my contact information/my client’s information be used for?

All contact information provided will not be disclosed to external parties; and will only be seen by our ALB research team and the judges panel. We keep the information on record internally, in case we need to contact you or your client regarding any questions or discrepancies in the submission form. 

Where will my name/firm name/team name be published if we are a finalist or winner?

As a finalist and/or winner, your firm/team/individual name will be published in ALB awards materials and print magazine. For more information, please contact us.

Is my submission confidential?

Any information you submit will only be reviewed by the ALB team and independent judging panel, whose names will be published. The material submitted will only be disclosed to the above; if there is any information that is strictly confidential, please mark clearly on the nomination form. Though we do our best to maintain the security of the information you provide, any information you transmit to us is done at your own risk and Thomson Reuters is not responsible for any unauthorized transmission of information.
