Two partners from Linklaters’ India group have moved to join the firm’s referral partner in India – Talwar Thakore & Associates (TTA).
Singapore-based partner Narayan Iyer and Hong Kong-based Kunal Thakore have joined TTA as equity partners. Thakore, who has worked at Indian firms Little & Co (now Fox Mandal Little) and Bhaishanker Kanga & Girdharlal, is the son of TTA founding partner Shobhan Thakore, who was a key partner at Bhaishanker Kanga & Girdharlal before establishing TTA.
The partnership between Linklaters and TTA was established within months of TTA’s launch in 2007, with many questioning the strategy in light of current restrictions on foreign law firms. Despite the restrictions imposed by the Indian Bar Council some foreign law firms – especially the UK’s Magic Circle – continue to gear up their India presence. In October Allen & Overy boosted ties to its Indian best friend, Trilegal, by sending India group partner Srinivas Parthasarathy to build the firm's capital markets practice, while Clifford Chance’s Chris Wyman is currently spending time at AZB & Partners.
TTA now has around 21 lawyers with the appointments.
