Kim & Chang has boosted its competition practice by hiring a former chief at the country’s competition watchdog, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KTFC).
Byungbae Kim joins the firm as a senior counsel in the antitrust and competition practice group, having served as a former vice chairman of the KTFC. Kim has also held positions at US firm Wilson Sonsini, and earlier in his career held public service roles in Korea’s Economic Planning Board and the Prime Minister’s office, as well as the Korea Development Bank.
The KTFC may be a new source of talent for top-tier Korean firms – earlier in November Yulchon hired former KTFC commissioner Soonsik Ju as a senior advisor in its antitrust practice.
