The winners of the sixth annual ALB Japan Law Awards 2010 will be announced this Friday 28 May at the Ritz Carlton, Tokyo at a gala event attended by a sellout 200+ crowd of Japan’s pre-eminent solicitors, in-house counsel, investment bankers and business leaders.
The Awards are the biggest event on Tokyo’s legal calendar and attract the top firms from across Japan. Providing a dedicated platform for recognising the very best law firms and legal work in Japan, awards in a total of 24 categories will be presented to firms, companies and individuals this year. Not surprisingly, pre-eminent law firms like Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, Sullivan & Cromwell, Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett are strong contenders in many award categories. Mori Hamada & Matsumoto for instance, is being nominated for 22 deals/categories while Sullivan & Cromwell is nominated for 15.
The quality of the nominated and shortlisted transactions in particular underline the resilience of the Japan legal industry during what has been an extremely challenging year. Major IPOs, capital raisings, restructurings and M&A deals feature among the at times startlingly complex finalist transactions.
