The biggest claim in Korean history has been filed against the family-run conglomerate Samsung Group.
Jointly represented by Bae Kim & Lee and Yoon & Yang, the creditors include financial heavyweights Seoul Guarantee Insurance Company, Woori Bank Korea Citibank and Korea Exchange Bank.
The financial dispute dates back to 1999 when Samsung chairman Lee Hun-Hee offered 3.5 million Samsung Life Insurance shares to creditors to compensate debts.
The Samsung Group pledged to repay the debts after Samsung Life listed, but the listing was delayed with the agreement expiring late last year. Creditors decided to take action in early December.
Samsung is represented by Shin & Kim.
