The votes are in, the numbers crunched, the data weighted, collated and tallied. And the results have given some interesting findings.
 
Only one-fifth of lawyers surveyed in the ALB Employer of Choice Survey 2009 rated salary as the top motivating factor capable of luring them away to a new position. Instead, the majority of lawyers surveyed cited non-financial factors: the opportunity to do challenging work, work-life balance and the reputation of the prospective new employer, as most important.

The stereotype of the cynical, materialistic lawyer, if it was ever was valid, it seems should now be put to rest for good. As much as anything, the ALB Employer of Choice Survey 2009 suggests that it may be time to recognise that lawyers take pride in the intrinsic value and intellectual merits of their work in the same way as any other professional.
