Mallesons partner Dave Poddar is set to spend the next six months on gardening leave following the surprise announcement that he will be joining Allen & Overy.
The competition law partner will leave the Mallesons Sydney office after more than 15 years at the firm to join his wife, Angela Flannery, who joined Allen & Overy earlier this year from Clayton Utz. A spokesperson for Mallesons said the firm “wished Dave well in his new role” and added that his departure would not have a profound impact on the firm's competition division as he was “one of several” partners there.
Poddar will join the A&O Sydney office as a partner in the global competition group and becomes the 18th partner to join the Allen & Overy Australian operation since its launch in February.
Poddar holds several industry and thought leadership positions, including the chair of the Trade Practices Committee of the Law Council of Australia and a vice chair of the IBA Antitrust Committee.
