Indian law firm Khaitan & Co has helped iconic motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson ride into the Indian market.
The company, which plans to market 12 Harley Davidson models in five dealerships across the country from the first half of next year, has long had plans to enter the lucrative Indian market (last year Indian consumers bought 7.4 million motorcycles and scooters) but faced hurdles in doing so in the form of government restrictions and high tariffs. With both of these having been relaxed, the company now plans to target the small but fast-growing luxury market in India.
A Khaitan team comprising Haigreve Khaitan and Bharat Anand advised the company on all aspects of its entry into India.
