Freshfields promotes 11 lawyers to counsel

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has added three new counsels to its Hong Kong practice: Edward Freeman (corporate), Gwen Wong (corporate), and Richard Bird (IP/IT). Freshfields has promoted 11 lawyers globally, effective from 1 Nov 2010. This round of promotions is in addition to the nine lawyers already promoted in May this year.

Another five years of oil & gas revenues - this time boosted by record high prices - have created a lake of liquidity in a region that has the need, the wherewithal, the ambition and the sheer will to make things happen. Law firms have for some time been feasting on big-ticket oil & gas, project finance, infrastructure and banking & finance work. But never to the current degree, and never across so many centres of activity.

Gibson Dunn raids Jones Day to establish Singapore office

Los Angeles-based firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has announced its intention to open a Singapore office. And helping to set up the new venture will be three partners poached from Jones Day - Emad Khalil, John Viverito and Saptak Santra. Leading the team will be corporate partner Jai Pathak, also formerly of Jones Day.
