Freshfields promotes Teresa Ko to head its China practice

To ramp up its China practice, international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP has promoted its Hong Kong-based partner Teresa Ko as the chairwoman of its China practice and transferred three other partners Jenny Connolly, Melissa Thomas and Simon Weller to its China branches.

Freshfields promotes 11 lawyers to counsel

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has added three new counsels to its Hong Kong practice: Edward Freeman (corporate), Gwen Wong (corporate), and Richard Bird (IP/IT). Freshfields has promoted 11 lawyers globally, effective from 1 Nov 2010. This round of promotions is in addition to the nine lawyers already promoted in May this year.

Japan’s largest firm opens first office in Vietnam

Nishimura & Asahi, the largest of Japan’s “Big Four” law firms, has launched its first representative office in Southeast Asia. The new office in Ho Chi Minh will be the firm’s second overseas venture, after its first international office was launched in Beijing only three months ago.
