Clifford Chance has hired Patrick Zheng as a partner in its litigation and dispute resolution practice. The multi-lingual Zheng joins the firm from Herbert Smith where he was a consultant in the firm’s disputes practice.
Prior to his time at Herbert Smith, Zheng worked at the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) between 1995 and 2003 before taking up the position of deputy director of legal at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
Martin Rogers, head of the firm’s litigation and disputes practice in Asia, said the appointment of Zheng is the missing piece in the firm’s Asia disputes puzzle. "The addition of Patrick to our L&DR practice in China completes a major part of our expansion plans," he said. "As corporate China continues to pursue overseas investments, there is a growing demand for litigation and arbitration advice. Already, the volume of disputes involving mainland Chinese firms has been increasing steadily over the past few years." ALB
