Australian law firm Blake Dawson and two of Singapore's largest firms, Allen & Gledhill and Drew & Napier, have landed roles on ANZ's acquisition of some of the Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS) assets across Asia.
The deal, which is worth US$550m will see the Australian-based bank acquire RBS's retail, wealth an commercial businesses in Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and Hong Kong. ANZ will gain control of RBS's institutional businesses in Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam which include 54 branches, loans worth around US$3.2bn, deposits totaling more than US$7.1bn and approximately two million clients.
A Blake Dawson team led by Tiffany Barton, David Williamson, John Sartori and Peter Sterling acted for long-time client ANZ (the firm also acted on the bank's U$S2.1bn share placement earlier this year, part of which is being used to finance the RBS assets acquisition), while Gary Pryke and Sandy Foo provided Singapore law advice to the bank. RBS tapped Singapore's largest firm, Allen & Gledhill, as counsel on Singapore law.
