WONGPARTNERSHIP PRESS RELEASE
For the second year running, WONGPARTNERSHIP has secured strong rankings in the annual Thomson Financial M&A Legal Advisor League Table Rankings.
WONGPARTNERSHIP ranked in 5 out of 6 surveyed categories ahead of leading local competitor Allen & Gledhill for value of M&A deals.
The Firm ranked ninth for announced number of deals, and ranked 10th for announced deals in terms of value in a recent review of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in Asia (excluding Japan).
In the category of completed deals in Asia ex-Japan, the Firm was ranked 10th by number of deals and ranked 11th for value. In the category of completed deals with Asian involvement by value, WONGPARTNERSHIP ranked fifteenth and was the only Singapore law firm to achieve representation in this category.
WONGPARTNERSHIP and Allen and Gledhill are the only two Singapore law firms to make the full-year listing, a presence also achieved in the 2001 full legal adviser league table rankings.
Head of the Banking, Finance & Corporate Practice, Mr Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, is pleased with the strong rankings achieved for the second year running.
"While 2002 produced a lower level of activity than 2001 in respect of "big-ticket" transactions, the rankings reflect our market position as a leading M&A practice in Singapore. As we move forward with our new Joint Law Venture partner, Clifford Chance, in 2003, we can look forward to harnessing the combined strengths and expertise of our respective teams to deliver to clients responsive, commercially oriented and high quality advice in Singapore and the region."
Amongst some of the transactions the firm was involved include representing Flextronics International, the world’s second largest maker of electronic components, in its successful acquisition of NatSteel Broadway Ltd; and 98 Holdings, a consortium headed by hotelier Mr Ong Beng Seng comprising GEMS, a private equity fund controlled by Mr Simon Murray, Standard Chartered Private Equity and Temasek Holdings Private Limited, in its fiercely contested battle for control of NatSteel Ltd.
