Clifford Chance has turned to magic circle rival Allen & Overy to bolster its litigation and dispute resolution practice in Asia.
Jill Wong, a former deputy general counsel at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for seven years, has joined CC as a consultant where she will work closely with partner Martin Rogers who co-leads the firm's regulatory team. With CC's hire, the firm has five lawyers working full-time on contentious regulatory matters.
For the last two years, Wong worked as a consultant at Allen & Overy focusing on regulatory and compliance issues. She advised investment banks, commercial banks, private banks, other financial institutions and listed companies on their regulatory obligations.
Meanwhile, A&O has relocated partner Angus Ross from its banking and finance litigation group in London to its litigation and dispute resolution department in Hong Kong.
Ross has particular experience in conducting multi-jurisdictional litigation arising from banking transactions, the fall out from insolvencies, fraud and the activities of rogue traders. He recently advised HSBC in proceedings arising from the US$40m insolvency of a shipping P&I club based in the Turks & Caicos Islands, and advised Japanese bank Nomura in its successful forum non conveniens application to stay English proceedings brought by Czech Bank Ceskoslovenska Obchodni Banka AS.
